🧽 The story of the melted sponge

You know exactly who this is, or who he used to be before something went sideways. That famous square yellow sponge, every porous hole intact, except now his face is sliding off. One eye has swollen huge and bloodshot, veined red around a tiny blue iris. The other has drooped down his cheek in a sad, melting pool.

His mouth hangs open with two big front teeth, and a fat red tongue lolls right out over his little collar. He looks like a beloved cartoon caught in the middle of a fever dream.

The blue base finishes the joke, a warped postcard from the bottom of the sea. It is funny and slightly wrong, which is the whole idea.
